The degree of stenosis on DUS was based on the peak systolic velocity (PSV) in the proximal internal carotid artery; analysis of DUS was based on a threshold of 70% stenosis, represented by a PSV of 270 cm/s. DSA was the diagnostic standard: A positive test result was defined as severe stenosis (70% to 99%) in the internal carotid artery on DSA. In the analyses, only stenosis measurements of the carotid artery on the symptomatic side were used.

Introduction: Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) is the standard method for detection of carotid artery stenosis. This technique has high radiation dose. With the progress of imaging techniques, noninvasive or minimally invasive methods like the CT angiography, MR angiography and ultrasonography with Doppler or Duplex mode were applicable. This study aimed to evaluate and assesse the results...
متن کاملBetween-method correlation in quantifying internal carotid stenosis.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The degree of internal carotid stenosis has emerged as the most important predictor of ischemic stroke in extracranial carotid artery disease. The purpose of this study was to assess the validity of the noninvasive techniques for quantifying internal carotid stenosis with respect to the accepted standard of intra-arterial angiography. METHODS We measured the maximum per...
متن کاملRecurring extracranial internal carotid artery vasospasm detected by intravascular ultrasound.
A 24-year-old woman presented with headache and left-sided focal signs following multiple episodes of right monocular visual impairment. Magnetic resonance angiography revealed a decreased vascular image intensity due to a suspicious stenosis in the right internal carotid artery (ICA). The stenosis was not demonstrated on duplex sonography as it was beyond the field of view of the investigation...
متن کاملComparison of magnetic resonance angiography, duplex ultrasound, and digital subtraction angiography in assessment of extracranial internal carotid artery stenosis.
The results of a prospective study comparing ultrasound, intra-arterial digital subtraction angiography, and magnetic resonance angiography in the assessment of the degree of extracranial internal carotid artery stenosis are reported in patients with symptoms of recent carotid territory ischaemia. A total of 70 patients and 137 vessels were examined by all three techniques. The results obtained...

Background and Purpose We compared two-dimensional time-of-flight magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) and duplex ultrasonography with arteriography for the detection of 70% to 99% stenoses at the carotid artery bifurcation (ie, surgical disease according to findings of the North American Carotid Endarterectomy Trial). Methods Three blinded readers independently measured stenoses on MRA in 73 v...
